Card Check Vote Scheduled
SENATE VOTE SCHEDULED ON CARD CHECK BILL
FMI URGES MEMBERS TO CONTACT YOUR SENATORS
ASK THEM TO VOTE "NO" ON UNION ORGANIZING BILL
As early as Wednesday, June 20th, the Senate could vote on the "Employee Free Choice Act", the so-called Card Check bill (H. R. 800). This proposal would take away secret ballot voting rights of American workers on the critical question of deciding whether or not they want to be represented by a union.
FMI urges all supermarket members to contact your Senators immediately and ask them to vote "NO" on cloture on the motion to proceed to H. R 800. Sixty votes are needed in the Senate to invoke cloture which cuts off debate and allows for a vote on the Card Check bill.
Many of you have already sent a letter to your Senators on this issue. It is important that you do it again so that your Senators will have your views on this issue fresh in their minds as they go to vote.

Subject: Vote No on Cloture to proceed with H.R. 800
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to you to ask that you vote "NO" on cloture on the motion to proceed to H. R. 800, the Employee Free Choice Act, which is also called the Card Check bill.
H.R 800 is clearly not in the best interest of my associates or my company and it should not be approved. The Card Check bill will deny my associates the democratic right to a federally supervised secret ballot election on the important question of whether my employees want union representation. This fundamental right to a secret ballot ensures that workers will have a fair election, free from fraudulent interference, coercion and intimidation from employers as well as the unions. The right to a secret ballot election should not be taken away.
I see no redeeming provisions in this union organizing proposal. It is so flawed that it cannot possibly be amended so that it would be acceptable to my company's associates.
I urge you to vote "NO" on cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 800.
Sincerely,
