Subject: NLRB Nomination

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

The purpose of my letter is to urge you to oppose the nomination of Craig Becker to serve as a Member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

I am concerned for several reasons. First, Craig Becker did not even have a confirmation hearing in front of a panel of Senators. Second, Craig Becker's background and his numerous law review articles and journals show that he holds extreme views on how the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) should be interpreted and how it can be changed without the need for any new legislation by Congress. From Becker's writings, I firmly believe that he sees no formal role for employers in union elections and that the secret ballot should only be used to give employees a choice as to which union will represent them. In other words, Craig Becker would seek to implement the so-called Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) administratively and without the Congress having to pass a new law. As you may know, I am adamantly opposed to EFCA and seek to preserve the secret ballot.

Craig Becker is well outside the mainstream of labor law in his views and positions of the NLRA. Moreover, there were no hearings on Becker's views and whether he can fairly and objectively interpret and enforce the NLRA. Without a full and public airing on Craig Becker, the Senate should oppose his nomination. I urge you to vote "NO" on the Becker nomination.

Sincerely,
